Overview of the SI Scholarship

The SI Scholarship for Global Professionals supports full-time, one- or two-year master’s degree programs at Swedish universities. Covering over 700 English-taught master’s programs, it offers recipients financial aid and professional development opportunities.

Through this initiative, the Swedish Institute seeks to foster a global network of leaders who will use their education and leadership skills to contribute to the sustainable development of their home countries.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for the SI Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

1. Citizenship: Be a citizen of one of the 33 eligible countries (listed below).
2. Program Eligibility: Apply for an eligible master’s program through University Admissions.
3. Tuition Fees: Be liable to pay tuition fees to Swedish universities.
4. Work Experience: Demonstrate relevant work experience (minimum 3,000 hours for many countries).
5. Leadership Experience: Showcase leadership experience from employment or civil society engagement.

Scholarship Benefits

The SI Scholarship for Global Professionals offers a comprehensive package, including:

• Full Tuition Fee Coverage: Paid directly to the university.
• Monthly Living Allowance: SEK 12,000 throughout the study period.
• Travel Grant: SEK 15,000 (SEK 10,000 for applicants from select countries).
• Professional Network Access: Membership in the SI Network for Future Global Professionals (NFGP) during the study period.
• Alumni Network Membership: After the scholarship period, recipients join a network of professionals dedicated to ongoing development.

• Changes to the chosen program or scholarship period

Key Dates for 2025 Applications

• October 15, 2024 – January 15, 2025: Apply for Swedish master’s programs through University Admissions.
• November 1, 2024: SI publishes the list of eligible master’s programs and application documents.
• February 10 – February 26, 2025: SI Scholarship application portal is open.
• March 27, 2025: University Admissions announces admissions results.
• April 24, 2025: SI announces scholarship recipients.

Eligible Countries

The SI Scholarship is available to citizens of the following 33 countries:

Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Georgia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, Ukraine, Vietnam, Zambia.

Applicants with dual citizenship in eligible countries may apply but must use only one citizenship for their application.

Work and Leadership Experience Requirements

Work Experience

• Applicants from certain regions must have at least 3,000 hours of work experience. This can be accumulated from up to three employers.
• Freelancers and self-employed individuals can also apply, provided they submit proof of experience using SI’s templates.

Leadership Experience

• Demonstrated experience in leadership roles, such as allocating tasks, influencing organizational strategies, or decision-making.
• Leadership experience from civil society engagements or networks is also considered.

How to Apply

1. Choose a Master’s Program: Select eligible programs from the list published by SI on November 1, 2024.
2. Apply to Universities: Submit applications to Swedish universities via University Admissions by January 15, 2025.
3. Prepare Your Scholarship Application: Gather required documents, including proof of work and leadership experience, using the templates provided by SI.
4. Submit Your Scholarship Application: Complete the application during the portal’s open period (February 10–26, 2025).
